I have a slightly different translation of Rumi\u2019s poem. My collage says \u201cLet that which you love, be what you do.\u201d This poem’s translation says, \u201cLet the beauty we love, be what we do.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\u201cA Great Wagon\u201d<\/strong>
\nBY RUMI<\/p>\nWhen I see your face, the stones start spinning!
\nYou appear; all studying wanders.
\nI lose my place.
\nWater turns pearly.
\nFire dies down and doesn\u2019t destroy.
\nIn your presence I don\u2019t want what I thought
\nI wanted, those three little hanging lamps.
\nInside your face the ancient manuscripts
\nSeem like rusty mirrors.
\nYou breathe; new shapes appear,
\nand the music of a desire as widespread
\nas Spring begins to move
\nlike a great wagon.
\nDrive slowly.
\nSome of us walking alongside
\nare lame!
\n~
\nToday, like every other day, we wake up empty
\nand frightened. Don\u2019t open the door to the study
\nand begin reading. Take down a musical instrument.
\nLet the beauty we love be what we do.
\nThere are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.
\n~
\nOut beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
\nthere is a field. I\u2019ll meet you there.
\nWhen the soul lies down in that grass,
\nthe world is too full to talk about.
\nIdeas, language, even the phrase each other
\ndoesn\u2019t make any sense.
\n~
\nThe breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
\nDon\u2019t go back to sleep.
\nYou must ask for what you really want.
\nDon\u2019t go back to sleep.
\nPeople are going back and forth across the doorsill
\nwhere the two worlds touch.
\nThe door is round and open.
\nDon\u2019t go back to sleep.
\nI would love to kiss you.
\nThe price of kissing is your life.
\nNow my loving is running toward my life shouting,
\nWhat a bargain, let\u2019s buy it.

\nDaylight, full of small dancing particles
\nand the one great turning, our souls
\nare dancing with you, without feet, they dance.
\nCan you see them when I whisper in your ear?

\nThey try to say what you are, spiritual or sexual?
\nThey wonder about Solomon and all his wives.
\nIn the body of the world, they say, there is a soul
\nand you are that.
\nBut we have ways within each other
\nthat will never be said by anyone.

\nCome to the orchard in Spring.
\nThere is light and wine, and sweethearts
\nin the pomegranate flowers.
\nIf you do not come, these do not matter.
